I remember my first trip to the Boundary Waters. The outfitter dropped us at the far end of the park and told us to be back at their facility in a week. I asked what we should do if we had an emergency, or if I had a heart attack. He said – “start a forest fire”.

One heart attack, and a few years later, I would still jump at another trip through the Boundary Waters.
